Description & Services
Description (Service) Crime reduction program * trains citizens to become aware of suspicious activities * citizens communicate with each other and police on crime related problems and potential crime development, acting as "eyes and ears" of police in their community * free crime prevention training is provided to all Watch members through community meetings and online training videos
Sup. Description A "Watch" is conducted exactly as any club or association, having an Executive and Membership * community-minded citizens are required for the Chairperson and Street Captain positions, who receive and pass along crime prevention information to their neighbours via email, phone, in-person, etc.
Hours Mon-Fri 9 am-5 pm * available for evening meetings and weekend events as required.

Residents concerned about crime and who wish to receive help to organize a Neighbourhood Watch Crime Prevention Program * 51% neighbourhood participation is essential before an area can be recognized as an official Neighbourhood Watch Group
Application Call the Durham Regional Police Service, Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator to meet and explore potential boundaries for the Watch * explain the program and implementation guidelines * train recruited Street Captains * community-wide crime prevention training meeting will be held * once the Watch becomes endorsed, Neighbourhood Watch signs may be purchased and erected at points of ingress to the community * receive ongoing training and support and regular communication from the DRPS
